The first 2 years we were located in Arizona (Phoenix area) until we and the Pinz moved to New Jersey....
For our first trip we selected a trail which is rated 4 overall with the first part rated only 2. First we have to get familiar with the truck before we take it closer to its (better our) limits. We have chosen the trail which passes Rogers Trough, east of Phoenix and accessible from US60. Well, this trail probably uses 95% of our and 1% of the trucks capabilities.....
Unfortunately the first trip was delayed by Arizona MVD required emissions testing............ Instead of getting the truck on April 25, 2002 we got it on Monday, May 6. This is what happened: The emission limits in the Phoenix metropolitan area depend on the GVWR and age of the vehicle. Some “highly eductated” specialists took the numbers for the Pinz (1950kg empty weight, 1000kg payload) and converted it into the imperial system. The result 2950lbs! This tightened the limits by a factor of two...........After a week of metric to imperial conversion training......... Fortunately there was a very helpful and knowledgable guy at ADEQ who helped us to get the last barriers out of the way (was this the first off-road trip? LOL)

After the “support vehicle” and some friends arrived we took off at am. The trip on US60 East went with normal Pinz speed and noise and everybody enjoyed the ride in this oversized convertible. Then we turned into FR172 and headed towards Rogers Trough.

Originally we wanted to go continue on FR172 to return to US60. Unfortunately the “support car” didn’t make it on the much rougher road so we decided to turn and go back the road we came from. The pictures below show the point the Toyota gave up....
